AFC Wallingford pulled off a stunning late victory at a sticky Kidlington on Tuesday night after injury time goals from Zinzee Taha and Danny Leggett secured a 2-1 victory. Wallingford had looked to be heading for certain defeat but an equaliser from Taha, sliding in at the far post to convert Tyler?s saved effort before a looping Leggett header from a Tyler corner took all 3 points for the visitors. It could have been so different for Kidlington, who hit the bar 3 times in the final 5 minutes through Mitchell, Moses and Smith before the late show from hard working AFC Wallingford.
The game started slowly, Wallingford making the early running with Aaron Baker and Andrew Styles showing some good touches and Abdouli Taha shooting just wide from 20 yards. The home side gradually came into the game and Morgan Williams hit the outside of the AFC post before AFC Keeper John Shea pulled off a superb double save to deny Moses and Williams again. The half finished quietly, Tyler?s long range free kick the only real effort for the visitors and Jimmy Deabills cross cum shot rising over the bar for Kidlington. The second half delivered a little more action for the crowd. With the pitch becoming increasingly difficult, Deabill went close for the home side, Styles had a spectacular effort for Wallingford and Thomas hit the AFC bar again for Kidlington. The home side then took the lead when Jason Smith followed up a deflected shot to rifle home from 10 yards with Shea stranded. The game became increasingly frayed, 5 bookings for Wallingford and 3 for Kidlington, Baker went close for the visitors on 2 occasions, the 2nd bringing a great save from Kidlington keeper Harris before Tony Niogu should have made it 2 from close range but his shot dribbled well wide. Wallingford left gaps at the back as they went in search of the equaliser but Kidlington failed to exploit them and with AFC growing in confidence and belief, the home side rattled the Wallingford woodwork on 3 occasions before the late show from Zinzee Taha and Danny Leggett gave the south Oxon side all 3 points. AFC Wallingford : Shea, Fenn, Lovegrove, Ingram, Barlow (Taha Z 85), Tyler, Styles, McMahon (Hoey 65), Baker, Leggett, Taha A (Massaquoi 75). |
