AFC Wallingford began their Pre-Season with a 2-1 home defeat to Hellenic League side Bicester Town

AFCW Wallingford were beaten by two first half goals from Bicester Town in a well contested game at the Hithercroft yesterday
AFCW started a little brighter than their Hellenic League opponents and controlled the early stages of the game with some good passing and periods of possession but did not create any clear chances. Bicester Town were looking to play in a slighty different manner with alot more direct long balls looking to find one of their pacey strikers in behind. It was one of these that created the first goal of the game. A long ball forward seemed to have been dealt with well by 17 Year old Devonn Reid but the ball was controlled well by the Bicester forward who turned and volleyed in off the far post. This did not effect a young Wallingford sides confidence as they continued to look to play controlled football with Ross Baker looking dangerous with some slick skills out wide and right back Aaron Davies constantly breaking forward to join in with the attack. Ben Jennings had a chance when he cut in past the cenre half but fired well wide. Jamekal Henderson and Sukh Hunjan (Both 16) were both introduced after 25 minutes and with 10 minutes of the first half remaining AFCW's pitch assisted Bicester to their second. Reid passed to Kuehn in midfileld but the ball took a bobble over his foot and the Bicester Town midfielder imediately realesed his striker who grabbed his second of the game.
The second half continued very similar to the first with AFCW controlling possession of the ball but with Bicester possibly having the best of the chances. Ben Jenningsgot Wallingfords goal after 55 minutes when he robbed Bicester Town centre half Craig Pitson and raced through to finish well past the keeper. Young Henderson was causing problems with his paced and power and the lively Fuimara was looking sharp both on and off the ball. The rest of the game was a well contested encounter and with both sides making continuous changes the intensity never dropped. Both sides could have added to the score but the game finished 2-1 with both sides going home happy.
A good start to Pre-Season with plenty of positives and lots of lessons learned.
