AFC Wallingford beat Harwell Village 7-0 in an outstanding display to claim another 3 points, their first clean sheet of the season and to make it 5 wins in a row.
Picture: (Butcher passes into Campbell against Benson Lions last weekend) AFC Wallingford looked for others to step up and score the goals this weekend as Topscorer Tom Collins was left out with trials at Football League and Premier League clubs this week and 6 of them did!! An excellent double from Man of the Match Ben Gladwin and good goals from Lewis, Campbell, Grant, Hemmings and Chadbone sealed the victory for a rampant AFC Wallingford. The first came when Baker found Gladwin at the back post who controlled the ball well and weaved his way past two defenders before unleashing a powerful left foot strike into the top corner. Brown and Chadbone both missed the target when well placed as the score was left 1-0 at half time. At 1-0 Wallingford knew their first clean sheet of the season would get them a vital 3 points but Wallingford turned on the style in an oustanding second half display saw them put another 6 past a helpless Harwell side. The second came when the keeper misjudged Tristan Lewis' corner and pushed the ball into the roof of the net. The classy Tristan Campbell then sealed the victory when he delicately chipped the keeper from 25 yards with 3 defenders surrounding him. Lewis' excellent diagonal ball then found 16 year old Bradley Grant who headed the ball back over the keeper to make it 4-0. Straight from the restart the impressive Gladwin won the ball back and found Hemmings (just on for Brown) with a superb 40 yard pass which Hemmings controlled well and fired high past the Harwell keeper. Chadbone then grabbed himself a much deserved goal on his return to the side when he raced through and bundled the ball past the Harwell keeper to finish into an empty net. Gladwin then finished the scoring of which he had started when another excellent through pass from Campbell released Gladwin who lobbed the keeper with the outside of his right foot. Assistant Manager Butcher said afterwards "An excellent performance from the boys, a good result and a cleansheet!! It was good to have Chads back in the side as he makes a real difference in the final 3rd. A mention must also go to Ben Gladwin who scored 2 top class goals today and has been in outstanding form recently for both youth team and first team alike. It is also pleasing to score 7 without Tom in the side who has been excellent for us so far this season scoring 8 goals in 7 games." Match Squad: 1. Nick Bovingdon 2. Gareth Sanshee 3.
