Hounslow Boro 0 AFC Wallingford 2 PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 28 August 2006

Wallingford bounced back after the weekend defeat in style with this classy performance against 2nd place Hounslow.

Many in the AFC camp had felt it was important to get back to winning ways straight away and this was comfortably achieved with goals in each half from Abdouli Taha and Andrew Styles, plus a well earned clean sheet from Gary Clark, recalled in the Wallingford goal.

AFC started strong right from the off as Baker played in Taha to shoot wide, Ross Tyler then went close with a dipping 20 yard effort. Hounslow looked dangerous on the attack and Wallingford's Ian Fenn cleared an effort from Eddie Mee off the line before the visitors went close again, Taha getting on the end of a fantastic ball from Aaron Baker and Michael Fellows having a fierce drive well blocked.

Boroughs Keane had a goal disallowed for offside when from the free kick Andy Styles broke clear but Adam Bark made a good stop at his near post. From the resulting corner, Wallingford took the lead as Styles swung in following a short corner and Abdouli Taha rose perfectly to head home into the centre of the net. It was nearly 2 on the stroke of half time but Fellows shot just over after great work from Taha.

The 2nd half began with Hounslow on the attack down the slope, Ryan O'Toole going close following a mistake by Fenn, Clark clearing the ball following a goal mouth scramble and Tom Ingram blocking well to deny Charles.

Wallingford continued to look dangerous on the break and they took a 2 goal lead on 55 minutes when substitute Zinzee Taha battled for the ball and played in Styles, he took one touch and sent an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner of the net giving Bark no chance. Hounslow came back strongly, playing a lot of high balls into the box but without much actual threat on the Wallingford goal and the visitors could have added a 3rd through half chances for both Zinzee and Abdouli Taha.

Wallingford were perhaps a little guilty of over playing the ball in the final 3rd but when O'Toole missed a great chance for Hounslow 10 minutes from time it looked to be AFCs day. Wallingford missed further chances through Touray and Styles but were worthy winners at the final whistle. Wallingford will now be looking to continue with this good form as they entertain southern league side Burnham in the FA cup at Hithercroft on Saturday.
