Wallingford fell to another defeat on Boxing day, in a game where they could have snatched something.
Despite missing regular centre-backs Ian Fenn and Brad Chalmers the home side kept things solid in the opening minutes and so nearly took an early lead. Michael Fellows through the centre, but shot weakly straight at the keeper. Then, from the next move, Hayday chipped through to Jefferson Harriott on the right side of the penalty area, but Badshot keeper Peter Rapley made a good stop to tip the ball wide.
At the other end Craig Evans made a great point blank save from a James Hinchin header. Wallingford were made to rue their missed early chances when Badshot took the lead on 20 minutes. Defender Matthew Griffiths header rose highest at a corner and Evans could only parry the ball as far as Dan Griffiths, who slid in and blasted into the roof of the net. Westhall should then have made it 2-0 shortly before half-time but skewered wide from 6 yards.Into the second half, the visitors began to look the most likely to score again, but Michael Fellows cleared off the line from a Rob Goldney effort. The turning point of the match came half-way through the second half. The visitors failed to cut out Haydays free kick and a defender could only flick the ball to the far post. Jefferson Harriott side centered the ball for Substitute Steve Wood to fire home from close range, but the linesman raised his flag late for offside, despite Wallingfords protests. To add insult to injury Badshot went straight down the other end and Blake crossed for the unmarked Harper to blast past Evans to make it 2-0. Goldney hit the bar late on for the visitors, while Michael Weir went close for Wallingford , but they could not reduce the deficit.
