AFC Wallingford suffered a further setback in their ongoing fight against relegation as they went down by 2 goals to fellow strugglers Fairford Town. The win moves the Gloucester side 7 points ahead of Wallingford.
Wallingford went into the game confident on the back of their first league win of the season against bottom club Harrow Hill the previous week and a hard fought 3-3 friendly draw with Chinnor in midweek.
Fairford started the stronger side and could have been 2 up before striker Bradley Gill netted on 34 minutes with a well taken effort. Wallingford came back strong in the 2nd period and played some good flowing football, forcing Fairford keeper Rob Paget into several fine saves from Irons and Stourton. However, AFC got no reward for their football and their fate was sealed when Michael Fellows was desperately unlucky to put through his own net and hand all 3 points to Fairford.
Wallingford now must pick themselves up as they prepare to make the long trip to Hereford when they take on 4th from botton Peagasus Juniors on Saturday 24th in a 3pm kick off.
