New Management Team Appointed PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 06 September 2007

AFC Wallingford are pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Lamont as manager of the first team. Peter will be assisted by Graham Brewerton. Peter managed Abingdon Town in the Ryman League and more recently was assistant manager at Oxford City. Last season he was assistant manager at Witney United. Graham has a long association with local football as player, manager and referee. Most recently he managed the reserve side at Milton United. Peter said he was glad to be back in football and was looking forward to the challenge of reviving Wallingford's fortunes and moving them off the bottom of the division. Graham's enthusiasm and hard work are praised by all his former clubs. He is looking forward to working with Peter again after their spell running first and reserves together at Abingdon Town.

Wallingford chairman Gerry O'Garr praised the support the club has received from former players and supporters in the difficult transition period after the departure of Carl Fisher. The biggest vote of thanks has to go to coach Shelley Strange who has single-handedly kept the club playing in the interim. She stuck to the task despite an 11-0 drubbing at Kidlington, and won the club their first point of the season after a magnificent display from a makeshift side at home to Milton on Tuesday. Shelley will remain at the club as coach under the new management team.

Peter and Graham will be at training on Thursday night to assess current and new players. They will take charge of the side for the first time on Saturday when Wallingford play Devizes Town at home in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase. Everyone at Hithercroft wishes Peter and Graham the best of luck and a warm welcome to AFC Wallingford.
