We've added this to the 'Latest news' to let you know what is happening to the ground 'Out of season'
Many thanks must go to Iain, who has been working hard to get this essential work done
Since the end of the season, we have done lots of work in order to improve the overall quality/drainage of the pitch.
1. Four tons of top soil has been added to the pitch in very worn areas (the two goal mouths and the centre circle). This had been mixed with a combination of sand and seed in order to improve the drainage and preventing surface water collecting at these areas.
2. The entire pitch has been seeded, with particular attention to the entire middle strip and the 2 touch lines the linesman used.
3. With the help and advice of Reading FC, we have also had the entire pitch 'verti-drained'. Deep spikes being driven about one foot into the surface of the pitch to break up the top soil and aerate the pitch. This will hopefully aid existing compaction helping the pitch to drain, and helping the grass to grow thicker and stronger.
4. The pitch has been sprayed with a strong/selective weed killer which will further encourage grass growth.
5. Over the next few weeks the pitch will be moved across to rest the worn goal areas and touch lines. New goal post sockets will be put in place enabling us to move the pitch from season to season.
6. Off the pitch, the far side will be paved to provide a safer/more secure storage area for training and pitch work equipment.
