AFC Wallingford have appointed Carl Fisher as first team manager to replace Andy Gordon, who has decided to step down. Shelley Strange will take on the role of first team coach.
Carl has managed AFC Wallingford A (known last season as Wallingford Athletic) for four years. He has taken them from the bottom of North Berks League Division 3 through to Division 1. In the process, the team has won 5 cups and 2 division titles. In 2005, they won the treble of Division 3 champions, Nairne Paul Cup winners and AG Kingham Cup winners and went through the season undefeated. Carl was playing in goal for Wallingford first team a decade ago, and still plays regularly in goal or central defence for Wallingford Athletic.
Shelley Strange has been a full time coach with Reading FC’s football in the community programme for four years. She runs coaching sessions for youngsters at schools and clubs in Oxfordshire and Berkshire and will qualify for the FA Level Three (UEFA B) coaching licence in October. Shelley has managed the under 10 team at the Reading FC Girls Centre of Excellence for two years. The team’s only defeat this season was to Arsenal, and one of the squad was the PFA Player of the Year at under 10 level. In her spare time she plays for the Reading FC Women side that finished the season as champions of the Southern Region Womens League.
