Wallingford moved into the semi-finals of the Direct Sports Supplementary Trophy with a 2-1 win over Division One West side Hook Norton.
A Wallingford side, looking confident after two good results in the Hellenic Premier Division, played excellent football throughout and took the lead after 8 minutes when Zinzee Taha sidestepped a defender and set Abdouli Taha in the clear, who responded with a excellent finish over the Keeper. At the other end, Garry Clark made great save against the crossbar and Paul Massaquoi cleared the rebound off the line, however, Wallingford created plenty more chances. Taha set up Danny Leggett who beat a defender, but the keeper made a good save with his legs. After Taha had just missed with a cheeky 45 yard lob, Wallingford made it 2-0 with a brilliant move. Paul Massaquoi played a one two with Andrew Styles and used his pace to get clear and dink the ball over the keeper and into the net. Just after half-time it was Styles' turn to try an ambitious 40 yard volley which flew just wide. The visitors threw everything forward to get back into the game, and Clark made another excellent save onto the post. Aaron Baker had a great chance to seal the game, but the keeper saved with his legs. Hook Norton responded by going straight down the other end and scoring through Greg Sawyer. Wallingford soaked up the late pressure and nearly scored on the break when Zinzee Taha turned on the edge of the area and unleashed a powerful shot which beat the keeper but bounced off the inside of the post and across goal. |
